A party fit for a Duchess
It took months in the planning for the grand opening of the latest cruise liner to come from Saga “The Spirit of Discovery” however our client knew they wanted to try something a little different.
It was decided that the Port of Dover quayside was to be transformed with grass into a “contemporary garden party” for the naming of Saga Cruises new ship “The Spirit of Discovery” by the Duchess of Cornwall.
With a garden party theme, there was a clear need for grass, and only the best for HRH Duchess of Cornwall. WowGrass became the perfect supplier choice for this application. Opting to lay approximately 1600m2 of Soil free WowGrass on the dock to completely transform the space.
Our teams worked over night laying large rolls of WowGrass with a forklift and laying frame to minimise the amount of visible joins.
The results were a complete transformation of what was once a grey concreted docking area to a colourful outdoor luxury area for guests to enjoy the celebrations.
The event was a huge success with a speech made by the HRH Duchess of Cornwall, a marching band and the tradition of smashing the champagne bottle for good luck all going to plan.
Guests were treated to a fabulous day in the sun, with afternoon tea prepared by Saga celebrity chef Kevin, Woodford and Selwyn Stoby, former executive pastry chef at Buckingham Palace and Paul Gayler, ex-executive chef of the Lanesborough Hotel.
